If you fancy putting your music knowledge to the test and being part of a special one-off evening with one of the UK’s best-loved comedy actors, John Thomson, then come along to The Plant Room at Freight Island on Thursday 29 September for a great night out.
Since the start of 2022 one of Forever Manchester’s community ‘friends’, The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre in Chorlton has been running a successful Celebrity Pop Quiz event with comedian, actor, narrator and all-round fabulous TV personality, John Thomson as MC/quiz master. So, whilst The Edge takes a ‘Pop Quiz break’ until October 13th, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to move from the suburbs for a one-off in the city centre, namely the fabulous Plant Room at Escape to Freight Island.
John Thomson is already familiar with Forever Manchester, having headlined its fundraising comedy nights so it’s great news that he will be the MC for this special event. With themes such as Manchester Music, Name that Tune, Novelty Records and Real Names and a Lyrics round where the quiz team audience will also be treated to some of John’s brilliant impersonations, including vocal visits from Tommy Cooper, Christopher Walken, Sylvester Stallone and even our own Tony Wilson, to name just a few. John is also an ace drummer, with many other musical talents as well ~ who knows, he might even treat the quiz teams to his human beatbox skills!
Feeling up to the challenge? This Celebrity Pop Quiz event is not your average pub quiz. To claim the top spot, the winning team needs to be equipped with an impressive knowledge of popular music from all eras and genres. There will be prizes on the night ~ one for the winning team and several individual *spot prizes* throughout the evening.
As the MC, John Thomson says himself,
“I’m thrilled to be hosting this Pop Quiz at Freight Island…it has proved to be a success throughout this year in raising funds for The Edge in Chorlton so this will be a great opportunity to raise money for Forever Manchester. I’ve heard that people are already bagsying tables!”
Doors will open at 6pm at The Plant Room, Escape to Freight Island and the Pop Quiz starts at 8pm (with an interval). Tickets are £15 per person for the evening, with 6 people per team.
Anyone with a ticket will be able to get 20% off food at Freight Island between 6pm until the quiz starts at 8pm. The ticket price includes a goody bag for everyone on each table. The bar will be open throughout the evening, with table service during the quiz itself!
