Marie Louise Gardens will be taking part in National Tree Week by holding an event to plant four new trees in the gardens and give visitors the chance to explore an innovative new digital tree trail.
The event at the park on Holme Road, West Didsbury, takes place on Saturday 3 December (10am – 1pm) and offers residents the chance to trial the new tree trail, which provides an enhanced experience to nature walks and education.
Using QR Codes on high-quality plant labels, the trail encourages people of all ages to enjoy, interact and learn more about Marie Louise Gardens at their own leisure.
A mobile device with a camera can be used to scan the QR codes on the labels which instantly directs the user to a mini web page, optimised for viewing on mobile devices.
The web page will reveal the information relating to each tree which can be adapted to present facts and background information in many forms including text, images and video.
Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Luthfur Rahman, said: “The new interactive trail at Marie Louise Gardens brings the park to life, helping to transform the park into an area of adventure and education.”
Organised by the Tree Council, National Tree Week is the UK’s largest tree celebration , held annually to launch the start of the winter tree planting season.
