An eighteen year old man has been arrested after a sixteen year old girl was attacked in Southern Cemetery yesterday morning
She was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening or changing.
The man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Sergeant Jon Lowe, from GMP’s City of Manchester district, said: “While we have made an arrest, I would also like to reassure residents that we believe that this was a targeted attack, and there is no threat to the wider public.
“The victim is currently being treated by medical professionals and is additionally being supported by specialist officers.
“Our investigation is currently ongoing, and I am now asking for anyone who may have seen anything from around the time of the incident to please come forward. If you were around the cemetery and it’s surrounding areas between 11.15 and 11.45, please do get in touch.
