Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Tom Tugendhat, Penny Mordaunt, Kemi Badenoch, Nadhim Zahawi, Jeremy Hunt and Suella Braverman have all made it onto the ballot, the Chairman of the 1922 Committee Sir Graham Brady has announced

Earlier former Health Secretary Sajid Javid dropped out of the race saying

There is an abundance of both ideas and talent in our party. One of the candidates will be given the honour of becoming Prime Minister. I look forward to seeing the debate unfold and to see colleagues working together as a united Conservative Party once the leadership election is concluded.”

Rehman Chishti withdraw from the contest just minutes before the deadline and earlier Grant Shapps also withdrew backing Rishi Sunak

The first vote will take place tomorrow with candidates receiving fewer than 30 votes from the 358 Tory MPs will be eliminated in this first round.

If all candidates reach that number, the one with the fewest votes is eliminated.
