a new Joint Venture Agreement has been signed to enable the development of around 750 new homes on the site of the former HQ of Greater Manchester Police in Stretford.
The agreement will now see FEC work with the Council and GMCA to redevelop the 9.5-acre site to create new homes and a range of other uses. The scheme is aiming to provide 25 per cent affordable housing, in line with the Council and the GMCA’s joint commitment to deliver more good-quality affordable, low carbon homes, including through the regeneration of brownfield land.
The scheme forms part of Trafford Council’s newly adopted Civic Quarter Area Action Plan for Stretford. In addition to new housing, the site aims to provide a hotel, leisure uses, new shops, offices and community facilities, all in a sustainable location with excellent public transport links to Manchester City Centre.
Trafford Council and GMCA selected the developers following a competitive procurement process which started in 2022.
Greater Manchester Police relocated to a purpose-built facility in Central Park, Newton Heath, in 2012.
