A date for fresh inquest into the death of 17-year-old Yousef Makki has been set for the 23rd of October.

Yousef died after being stabbed in Hale Barns in 2019 but the High Court recently ruled an inquest into his death when the coroner failed to make a ruling of unlawful killing should be quashed.

In the pre inquest hearing it was announced that the new inquest should hear again from the witnesses involved in the case including Joshua Molnar, aged 17, at the time, who claimed self-defence and was acquitted of murder and manslaughter and Adam Chowdhary, who was present during the fatal incident, and was cleared of charges of perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to rob.

The previous inquest into Yousef’s death at Stockport Coroner’s Court with Senior Coroner Alison Mutch ruled that the ‘precise circumstances’ of his death ‘cannot, on the balance of probabilities. be ascertained’.

The new Coroner Mr Geraint Williams said “This is a single issue case – was Mr Molnar acting in self-defence” and said the scope of the inquest would include the events on the day leading up to Yousef’s death.
