The amount of time that people will have to isolate if they have tested positive for Covid is to be cut from seven to five days from Monday if they record negative tests on days five and six

Speaking in the House of Commons this lunchtime the Health Secretary Sajid Javid said that COVID curbs should not be in place any longer than necessary.

The government has been reviewing the isolation period rules, and the UK Health Security Agency data shows that two thirds of cases are no longer infectious from day five.

He added that UK is the the freest country in Europe. It is “leading the world in learning to live with Covid”,
