People in the country’s most deprived areas are getting hit more severely by the cost of living crisis

Figures released this morning by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) covering November found that 58% of those living in the most deprived areas of England reported spending less on food and essentials.

This figure was 33% for those living in the least deprived areas.

70% of those living in the most deprived areas of England were worried (very or somewhat) about keeping warm in their home this winter.

This figure was 46% for those living in the least deprived areas.

84% of those living in the most deprived areas of England were worried (very or somewhat) about the rising CostOfLiving.

This figure was 70% for those living in the least deprived areas.

Overall around 9 in 10 adults reported their cost of living had increased compared with a year ago, while a lower percentage (76%) reported an increase in their cost of living compared with one month ago.

The most common actions reported by adults because of the rising cost of living were spending less on non-essentials (68%), and using less fuel, such as gas or electricity, in their homes

When asked about how they were feeling about the future in response to the times we are living in now, around half of all adults reported they were unsure (very or fairly) of the future; this increased to 55% among those in the most deprived areas of England but was 45% among those in the least deprived areas.
