America has suspended travel for foreign nationals from the European Union to the U.S. President Trump has announced.

The ban is for 30 days and starts on Friday, with limited exceptions for American citizens .

The U.K, though is exempt as it is no longer in the EU and other countries that are not in the Schengen Area travel zone including Ireland, Croatia, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia

Falsely describing coronavirus as a “foreign virus” that carries a “very, very low risk” for most Americans, Trump accused the Europeans of failing to act to stem its spread.

The President added “ Our future remains brighter than anyone can imagine. Acting with compassion and love we will heal the sick,”

Italy meanwhile has announced new restrictions to tackle the outbreak.With the country in mass lockdown already,it has ordered bars, restaurants and hairdressing and beauty salons to close, after the highest daily increase in deaths of any country outside China since the outbreak began.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said all shops would be closed except for supermarkets, food stores and chemists and companies must close all non-essential departments.
