The Health Secretary Matt Hancock said a total of 21,092 people have now died in hospital from Coronavirus,an additional 360 fatalities from the previous day.
He has also confirmed that there are now 15,051 people in hospital with coronavirus.
At the Daily Press Conference, he also announced a new life assurance scheme for NHS and care workers who have lost their lives to the disease of £60,000.
Matt Hancock also reaffirmed the message from the weekend that the NHS is open for business. He said that A&E attendences have dropped by more than 50 per cent, partly because of fewer road accidents, but also because people aren’t coming forward to use the NHS “for critical things that matter”.
Cancer treatments that had been on hold in the NHS would, from tomorrow, resume along with mental health treatment although the volumes would depend on the amount of coronavirus cases an individual hospital is dealing with.
