Conversations with a Camera is part of Heritage Open Days. This exhibition features twenty-one pieces by the members of the local community photography group, Chapel Street Camera Club.

The group started in 2010. They meet every week to share their passion for photography and sample coffee and cake at local coffeeshops. One of the group’s leaders, Mike Aspinall, says:

“We are a group of friends who meet every Thursday, visiting interesting places usually round Manchester and Salford to take photos and socialise.”

The photographs on display in the Castlefield Viaduct visitor building explore Salford and Manchester through different lenses – finding quiet moments within the city throng or different aspects of life through motion, stillness, weather, place and people. They capture what we see everyday but also what we take for granted in the busy, buzzing city.

This is the first art exhibition to take place on Castlefield Viaduct, a temporary garden revitalising a disused railway bridge in the centre of Manchester. The project has been brought to the city by the National Trust and is seeking funding to extend and become a permanent feature of the city beyond summer 2024.

Conversations with a Camera opens to the public on Saturday 9 September as part of Heritage Open Days. It is on display in the visitor building during the viaduct’s usual opening times until Sunday 17 September.
