Controversy continues to surround the Brexit candidate for the North West who is standing in the forthcoming European elections.

Claire Fox was a leading member of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) which defended “the right of the Irish people to take whatever measures necessary in their struggle for freedom” after the IRA killed two young boys in Warrington.

Fox has denied being an IRA sympathiser.: “I fully respect the Good Friday Agreement and embrace the peace that it has made possible.” she said in a statement released last weekend and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has dismissed the comments as being irrelevant.

However Colin Parry, whose son Tim died in the Warrington bombing, has said voters would be “absolutely disgusted” and urged Ms Fox to disown the comments saying on Twitter,

“Thank you for solid backing on rejecting the Brexit Party’s  EU candidate for NW England, who supported IRA bombing in Warrington town centre killing my son Tim and Jonathan Ball.”

The Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has also added his support also saying on Twitter

The possibility of the North West being represented by someone who defended the Warrington bomb is truly horrifying. Please vote against it.”
