Two of Manchester’s unique sporting and cultural offerings came together in what turned out to be a colourful roller-skating extravaganza at Salford Quays.

The latest in a programme of unique events at the Lightwaves 2015 digital art festival, a team of eight skaters from Manchester Roller Derby wowed visitors at the columns of Mads Christensen’s Cathedral of Mirrors.

This year’s star attraction, Cathedral of Mirrors is a dazzling interactive artwork made up of 12 giant pillars, which light up in response to movement. A brand new commission, it was unveiled to the public for the first time at the launch of the festival on Friday 11th December.

With two other works from Iceland-based artist Marcos Zotes and Australian artist Amanda Parer in the public spaces around The Quays and Media City UK, there is an opportunity to see some of the world’s best digital light art for free, until Sunday 27 December.

Visitors are invited to join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #Lightwaves15, a way to keep up to date with the latest news and share their experiences with the wider community.
