Twenty young carers from across Salford and Manchester were invited to a special Christmas party on Monday (12 December), organised by Manchester charity Gaddum.

The children, who were all aged between 6 and 13, were treated to an afternoon of festive fun with music, games and presents at Salford University.

Gaddum provides support and activities for young carers and adult carers as well as therapy and an advocacy service so that vulnerable people can have their voice heard.

The party was made possible thanks to the generous support of Salford based IT services businesses, LIMA. LIMA staff raised just over £1,000 to fund for the party and also gave each child a special gift, including a £10 Amazon voucher and a selection box.

LIMA first approached Gaddum in October to see how they could help the young carers living in their local community and are keen to do more in 2023.

Michelle Stokes, LIMA’s head of service delivery, said: “At LIMA, we want to be proactive in helping our local community and our team are very concerned about the challenges that young carers face every day. You can never do too much to help others and hopefully this is the start of a long relationship with Gaddum and the young carers.”

Lynne Stafford, chief executive of Gaddum, said: “The young people all had a wonderful time at the Christmas party and we are very grateful to LIMA for their generosity and for putting a huge smile on everyone’s faces. We are really looking forward to working with LIMA again in 2023 to support our young carers.”
