The Chief Librarian of Manchester’s Cheetham Library Michael Powell has died at the age of 64, the Library has announced.
In a statement issued on Twitter, the Library, one of the oldest in the country said:
“We are immeasurably sad to announce the devastating news that our brilliant and beloved friend and colleague Michael Powell has died peacefully in his sleep early this morning ( Monday).
Michael’s love for Chetham’s Library, for the history of Manchester, for the knowledge he wore so lightly and for the people he shared it with was a gift to us all and he will never be forgotten. All who knew and loved him are welcome to come to his funeral – details TBA”
