The Henshaws’ Carols by Candlelight concert has raised a huge £13,700 following its return to Manchester Cathedral earlier this month.
Choirs and famous musical guests returned to the iconic venue to raise money to support Henshaws’ life-changing work supporting people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities across Greater Manchester.
Performers at this year’s concert included the Britain’s Got Talent star Stefan Andrusyschyn, and the evening was compered by Henshaws patron Dave Steele, also known as the internationally acclaimed spoken word artist the ‘Blind Poet’, who shared his thought-provoking poetry.
The evening also featured joyful performances by the Henshaws Children and Young People Choir, made up of talented visually impaired young singers supported by Henshaws, and the Chorlton Ukulele Group who performed a set list of sing-along favourites.
The Carols by Candlelight concert on Sunday, December 14th marked the start of the festive season and brought festive cheer, music, poetry, and community spirit to the heart of Manchester while showcasing the talents of the Henshaws community.
Guests feasted on festive treats, including warming mulled wine and mince pies, and took part in a festive raffle with prizes including generously donated Christmas hampers and restaurant vouchers.
All proceeds raised from the evening will help Henshaws to continue to deliver its essential services and support that empowers people in the Greater Manchester community with disabilities to live their lives to the fullest. This year’s headline sponsor was Cargill, along with sponsors Esprit Warehousing, and The Julian Niman Charitable Trust.
Stephen Tongue, director of fundraising at Henshaws, said: “This year’s Carols by Candlelight concert was our brightest celebration yet and saw the community once again come together in the stunning surroundings of Manchester Cathedral to celebrate the season, share in beautiful music, and support the life-changing work we do every day. Thank you to everyone who came and made it a truly unforgettable evening.”
