The Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham will be giving evidence to the COVID Inquiry this morning
He will be joined by the mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Liverpool’s Steve Rotheram and may face claims that they hindered the public health response to the pandemic by wrangling over Whitehall funding
Mr Burnham and Mr Khan are scheduled to give evidence on Monday morning, with Liverpool’s Metro Mayor Mr Rotheram down to appear later in the afternoon.
Burnham in particular was involved in intense negotiations with Downing Street in October 2020 over the imposition of tough Covid restrictions and the need for a local support package for businesses and workers.
Back in 2021 Burnham said that promised Covid-19 public inquiry will reveal the need for British society to be “completely rewired”,
