Seventy new homes look set to be built on Reddish Vale after Stockport Council approved plans for the £33m Brinnington Masterplan project last night.

Plans to build on the Green Belt have proved controversial with more than 14,000 people signing a petition opposing the plans, claiming the development will be a blight on a beautiful meadow.

The overall plan for the transformation of Brinnington will see
two hundred and seventy new houses and a sports centre being built and councillors argued that the scheme was not viable without building on a small proportion of the park which they say was unused.

The plans still have to be ratified by the Secretary of State as they affect Green Belt land.
