The Prime Minister has become the latest polititian to succumb to the virus joining Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel now all running G7 countries while in self-isolation

The announcement was made on twitter and Johnson said that he had mild symptoms.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said:

After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty. The test was carried out in No 10 by NHS staff and the result of the test was positive.

In keeping with the guidance, the Prime Minister is self-isolating in Downing Street. He is continuing to lead the government’s response to coronavirus.

No10 also said that the Prime Minister chaired the usual COVID-19 meeting this morning, from isolation.

Shortly after the Health Secretary Matt Hancock also announced that he has tested positive for the disease.

“Following medical advice, I was advised to test for .I‘ve tested positive. Thankfully my symptoms are mild and I’m working from home & self-isolating.” he tweeted
