A man from Bolton has been jailed for eight years and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely for a series of sex offences against a 12 year old girl

Shaw Dennis aged 40, of Eskdale Grove in Bolton, was sentenced today at Bolton Crown Court after being found guilty of sexual communication with a child, sexual assault and oral rape of a child under the age of 13

Dennis was sentenced today to eight years for the rape, and will serve 12 months concurrently for the sexual communication charge and three years concurrently for the sexual assault charge.

The court heard how these charges are in relation to three separate incidents which took place between 30 December 2019 and 29 January 2020, where Dennis sexually abused a child under the age of 15.

Police Constable Jackie Millen, of GMP’s Child Sexual Exploitation Unit in Bolton, said: “I’d like to thank the victim and their family for their bravery and co-operation through the investigation and consequent trial.

“Ensuring that victims are safeguarded and offenders face justice are our highest priorities.

“I hope that today’s sentencing provides a sense of justice to the victim and their family and serves as a warning to offenders.

“I encourage young people who are – or anyone else who suspects a young person is – being inappropriately contacted by an adult – whether in person or via the internet – to report it to an appropriate adult or agency. This could be a parent, carer, teacher, or the police.”
