The Bishop of Manchester, Dr David Walker has said that the restrictions imposed in the North West of England “smacks of a Westminster based mentality that has little care” for the area.

Interviewed by Sky News on Saturday he said that we have seen over several days the Government not wanting to engage seriously in what the needs of the North West are.

He said that Lancashire had been bullied into being put into Tier 3 while its economy in towns such as Blackpool would be devastated.

All the while he added, the Scientific advisors don’t think that the Tier 3 proposals won’t bring the cases of the virus down.

He earlier tweeted that

“We need regulations aligned with published science, supported with financial help at the spring levels, & agreed with local leaders. We also need government prepared to acknowledge and apologise for its mistakes.”
