Labour’s Candidate for Greater Manchester Mayor used Burnage Rugby Club to announce her transport plans for the region and the launch of the yellow Bev Battle Bus

Among her promises, a continuation of the policy of free travel for older residents and disabled people all day and a reaffirmation of the fares freeze and free travel on the Bee Network for 11-18 year olds

Bus routes she promised would be expanded connecting areas that have so far been left behind and there was a commitment to introduce more night buses not only for those on a night out to get home but also to enable people to travel to and from work

There will be a new pothole fund for Greater Manchester’s roads and a confirmation that she will continue her predecessors drive to integrate transport across the region with rail services coming into the Bee Network

The venue was no doubt deliberately chosen as it lies close to the route that would see the extension of the Metrolink system from East Didsbury into Stockport and Craig also reaffirmed that the groundwork on this would continue up to 2028 when the next Mayoral election takes place

She also made it plain that she would not be looking at any plans for a clean air zone across the region, something that plagued her predecessor’s administration

Craig said that she would set out her costings in her manifesto which we expect to see soon
