A significant 49-41 win over the Swindon Robins saw Belle Vue got four points clear of Poole in the Premiership top three, after a mid-meeting scare inspired a winning response from the Mancunians.

The Rentruck Aces picked up from where they left off against King’s Lynn last week, establishing a hefty 8-point lead after six heats with their momentum showing no signs of slowing down.

But they found tough opposition in the visiting Robins, who refused to settle for second-best and put in a string of heat advantages to bring the meeting back to within 2 points with just five races to go.

It meant the pressure was on for Belle Vue to respond, and they did so with fervent determination to not only ensure victory on the night but also prevent Swindon from taking a consolation point.

Club reserve Jaimon Lidsey, who clocked up an impressive 7+1 said: “Swindon have a strong team and they really put up a fight, but we battle hard and got the win and it was an awesome feeling.

“There’s still a long way to go this season but the boys are starting to click together now and hopefully if we can keep this form up, we’ll be there or there abouts when the chips are down.

“We only need to look at Poole last year. They went from bottom to top so anything’s possible. This was a big result for us against Swindon so we need to keep this going as we move forward.”
