If you’ve ever wanted to have a go at making radio then now’s your opportunity. BBC Radio Manchester is looking for 100 volunteers to take over their airwaves for one week – and you don’t have to have any journalistic qualifications to do it.

The “Over to You…” volunteers will get the chance to report, produce, create digital content and even co-present with BBC Radio Manchester’s regular team – presenters like Mike Sweeney, Alison Butterworth and Phil Trow.

The recruits will undergo training at Mediacity UK in Salford before the station is turned over to them for a week in March 2017.

The hope is that the Over to You team will highlight local stories that they feel passionately about – it might be a community campaign or a piece of local history. It might be about business, music or sport, or even fly tipping and potholes.

Applicants must be aged over 18 and live in the Greater Manchester area. The closing date for applications is January 15th 2017.

BBC Radio Manchester’s managing editor, Kate Squire, added: “This is a rare opportunity for people who love their local area and want to have a go at something new. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any experience in radio – in fact we’d rather you didn’t. What we want is enthusiastic volunteers from a variety of different backgrounds, ages and cultures. Come and see what we do and how we do it. Then you can have a go too.”

Presenter Becky Want said: “This is such a wonderful opportunity I’d have loved a project like this when I was starting out on the radio!”
