A 29-year-old woman was the victim of an attempted rape in Rochdale in the early hours of this morning.

The women was walking along Richard Street around 3.00am when she was approached by a man who made advances towards her.

When she refused, the man grabbed her bag and attempted to rip open her jeans.

The victim screamed loudly and at this point, the offender fled in an unknown direction.

The offender is described as an olive skinned man in his late teens or early twenties, around 5ft5inches tall, with dark thick hair which is shaved at the side.

He was wearing blue jeans, a blue and white long sleeved top and spoke with an Eastern European accent.

Detective Constable Charles Stewart of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This man’s behaviour is despicable, I cannot imagine how terrified the victim must have felt in this situation.

“The victim has been very brave, not just in scaring the offender off, but by coming forward and reporting it to police.

“If you recognise the description of the offender and have information that could help us identify who he is, then I’d ask that you please get in touch with us.

“Similarly, if you heard a disturbance or saw something that could be significant to this investigation, then share what you know.”
