There’s plenty going on in Manchester this month, but most of all it looks like it’s going to be a month of sports.

With the sun shining, everybody is relishing the opportunity to get back outside in the fresh air – whether that’s to watch the professionals taking part in sports or to get moving again. Winter hibernation is finally over and we can look forward to getting active once more.

So, without further ado, here are some of the most exciting sporting events that are happening in and around Manchester this April.

The Grand National

Not strictly Manchester but rather, Merseyside, April brings with it one of the oldest sporting events on the calendar, the Grand National.

Just an hour away from the centre of Manchester is Aintree, the home of this historic race.

There have been plenty of surprise winners in this race’s history, so finding the winner is a fun but challenging task. At the moment, it’s possible to find a free bet Grand National so that you can try your hand at predicting which horse will win.

Last year’s winner – Minella Times – will be running again this year so it could be a double for this brilliant horse. However, Any Second Now is the current favourite, following his win at Fairyhouse. Trainer Gordon Elliot also has a slew of well-fancied horses that will be running in the race.

It’s looking like it could be a close one this year, so it’s guaranteed to be an exciting day out. Book your tickets early to avoid disappointment, or support your local pub and watch it there. If you’re lucky enough to have a big screen at your house then get your friends round for a screening.

Grand National day is one of the most exciting sporting days on the UK calendar and promises to be a fun day for all, wherever you happen to be watching it.

Therme Manchester Marathon

Whether you’re running in it, know somebody who is, or are just hoping to watch some of the race, you’re bound to be aware of the Therme Marathon.

Taking place in Manchester on the 3rd of April, Peter Hook has just been announced as the honorary starter for the race.

It’s too late to get your entries in now, but there are plenty of places still available for next year’s event.

The Therme Group are the newest sponsors of the Manchester Marathon and they’re pretty exciting ones to have. The company is in the process of building a park that offers thermal treatments to everyone in Manchester, encouraging people to enjoy healthy and active lifestyles.

These facilities will allow people to swim in lots of different pools, enjoy wave machines, thermal spa treatments and eat food that has been grown on-site.

This holistic approach to health is a really exciting one and hopefully, some of the weary runners will be able to make use of the facilities once the race is over.

Norwich City V Manchester United

Manchester is a football-loving city and with both teams in the top 6, the football calendar is becoming even more exciting.

There are plenty of fixtures for both City and United in April, but one of the toughest home matches will be against Norwich City.

It’s been a pretty disastrous season for Norwich so far, to say the least. They’ve managed to win just four of their 29 matches, putting them last in the table and fighting desperately not to be relegated.

While Manchester United fans might not be too worried, historically, Norwich have unleashed their fighting instincts in times like this. It’ll be a great game to watch and hopefully one that will see Manchester United to their goal of making it into the top four.
