The family of Shane Cullen are appealing for help to locate his missing mobile phone following his death in Ashton-under-Lyne.
It is believed that Shane, 31, had his phone with him when he was seriously assaulted at a business premises on Bow Street in Ashton-under-Lyne during the early hours of Saturday 11 July 2026. Despite searches from us and the family, the phone has not been located.
A 36-year-old man has since been charged with murder, assault and two counts of common assault in connection with the incident. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Shane’s death remain ongoing.
This appeal is specifically to help locate Shane’s phone so it can be returned to his family. The device contains precious photographs, videos and memories which are of huge sentimental value to his loved ones.
The handset is believed to be an android-type mobile phone, dark in colour, kept inside a black wallet-style phone case. The case covers most of the phone, leaving only the top section of the screen visible when closed. The lock screen is believed to display a standard black and blue background image, with no personal photograph.
Detective Inspector Matthew Hamer said: “Since Shane’s death, we have been working closely with his family to try and locate his mobile phone.
“While criminal proceedings relating to Shane’s death are ongoing, this appeal is about helping a grieving family recover something that means a great deal to them.
“The phone contains photographs, videos and memories that cannot be replaced, and we are keen to reunite it with Shane’s loved ones.
“We believe Shane had the phone with him at the time of the incident. If anyone has seen it, found it, or perhaps picked it up without realising its significance, we would ask them to come forward and help us return it to the family.
“Information can be provided anonymously, and we would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.”
