The ever-popular format whereby the public brings various antique objects to be appraised by professionals including china, jewellery, furniture and paintings will take place at Salford Museum and Art Gallery this week.

As part of a new exhibition called A-Z which follows the alphabet through Salford’s collections taking you on a journey from a painting of an Ape’s head to the zodiac, the Bonhams Evaluation Day event has been created so that members of the public to bring their collections, artefacts and family heirlooms.

Have you got a collection or item you’d like to know more about? Think you may have a hidden treasure trove? As Salford Museum and Art Gallery shows some of its collections of lesser-seen objects in the A-Z exhibition, it is inviting members of the public to bring their collections to share and receive a public auction valuation from a leading regional auction house.

Funds from ticket sales will go directly to restoration of the collections in the ‘restore display, enjoy’ campaign, and includes a valuation session with Bonhams and a private view of the A-Z exhibition.

The A-Z exhibition collection has been explored to share some intriguing items; from paintings and decorative art, to costume and social history. Do you know how Victorian gentlemen protected their moustaches from tea? Did you know we hold a monarch’s pair of stockings in the collections- but whose? Visit the exhibition to find out!

The valuation event will take place on Monday the 25th March 11am-3pm at Salford Museum and Art Gallery.

Tickets for the event cost £2 and include a valuation session and a viewing of the A-Z exhibition.
