There’ve been plenty of publicity stunts to mark Oasis’ long-awaited comeback, from Aldi’s Aldeh and Lidl’s jacket to Asda’s Lasagnaaaaa.
But a stunt with a more serious message has appeared in Lever Street to mark the band’s homecoming reunion.
Roll With It’, a mural painted by leading loo roll brand Andrex in partnership with Bowel Cancer UK, is encouraging fans to track their poo. It comes after research found that 1 in 4 people rarely or never look at their poo – one of the main ways to keep an eye out for signs of bowel cancer.
Andrea Morton, 35 from Manchester, says: “I’m so happy to see the Roll with It mural come to life in mine, and Oasis’ hometown! As someone who has experienced Stage 4 bowel cancer, I know how important it is to recognise when you are experiencing symptoms and most importantly, to take the step to talk to your GP. I love the idea of thousands of people walking past the Andrex and Bowel Cancer UK mural on their way to the concert – hopefully it resonates and inspires so many people, whether that’s to speak with a medical professional or just to keep an eye on their poo each day. If people have one take away from the art, I wish for it to be that thousands of fans start to look back and track! It’s time people got comfortable looking at and talking about poo – it will save lives.”
Niamh Finan, Marketing Director at Andrex explains: “Getting comfortable with knowing what’s normal for you is vital for spotting the signs of bowel cancer, so when it comes to tracking your poo, roll with it.”
The site has been specially chosen to target fans queuing for the Heaton Park shuttle bus.‘Roll with it’ is part of a three-year partnership between Andrex and Bowel Cancer UK, which has included several initiatives and also included bowel cancer symptoms being featured on the back of over 100 million packs of Andrex toilet tissue a year.
