Manchester United have sacked their manager Ruben Amorim

The 40 year old Portuguese couch was informed of the decision this morning and goes with immediate effect after 14 months

It follows a breakdown in relations.

His final game of his 14-month spell in charge was the 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday that leaves them sixth in the Premier League after 20 matches

The move follows reported tension over a lack of alignment in the transfer market and a breakdown in the relationship between Amorim and Jason Wilcox.

In a statement the club said

With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.
