An Air India Boeing 787 bound for London crashes shortly after takeoff killing 242 people
The Air India flight AI171 was travelling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner lost its signal just seconds after takeoff.
The one known survivor of the Air India plane crash is 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British-Indian who was returning to the UK after a visit.
Reports said he had taken the flight along with his brother, whom he is trying to find.
He escaped reportedly by jumping from the plane
“There was a huge bang just seconds after takeoff. I ran through smoke and fire.” he told reporters
There were 53 Britons on board the Air India flight when it crashed, according to the airline.
Reports say the Boeing 787-8 struggled to gain altitude shortly after departing Ahmedabad bound for London.
It seemed to stall and crashes into a residential area. The plane, a Boeing 788 was never involved in a fatal crash until today.
