Community Action Group ACORN are celebrating announcing that after After than a year and a half, councillors in Manchester have voted to stop sending bailiffs to the homes of people receiving council tax support

The decision by Manchester Council’s resources and governance scrutiny committee at a meeting today

Lib Dem Councillor Alan Good described it as a huge win for vulnerable residents in Manchester.

“Think it’s cool when we resist an eviction and stop a bailiff getting into someone’s home? Well we just stopped them getting into 50,000 homes.”

The decision taken means that anyone in receipt of or eligible for council tax support in Manchester will not be referred to bailiffs if they fall behind with payments
