BELLE Vue have further consolidated their spot at the top of the Sports Insure Premiership table with a win over King’s Lynn at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday night [June 8].
The ATPI Aces had earlier been rocked by the news that skipper Brady Kurtz would miss the fixture after aggravating an ankle injury he picked up in Monday’s home match against Ipswich.
Rider Replacement was put into effect for the reigning league champions, with all of Kurtz’s team mates eligible to step in and cover his programmed rides.
There was little to nothing separating the two sides in the early stages of the evening, with a succession of shared races dominating the scores and no sign of either team breaking away.
The MacInnes Stars briefly took the lead in Heat 4 before Dan Bewley and Tom Brennan teamed up one race later to deliver a 5-1 that brought the scores back level.
A further stalemate ensued until the ATPI Aces made their move in Heat 9 with Bewley this time teaming up with Norick Blodorn for a 4-2 that put the visitors in front.
From that point on, there was little the home team could do to respond as the Belle Vue boys found their stride and built up their advantage to secure their latest victory.
Bewley led the way for the Aces with 14+2 from six rides while Jaimon Lidsey complimented him with 10+1 and Blodorn adding an impressive 9+1.
Team boss Mark Lemon said: “This wasn’t just a fantastic team performance but there were also many impressive individual performances from the boys.
“Obviously, it wasn’t the best news for us not to have Brady [Kurtz] for this meeting. He’s been in excellent form recently and is a solid scorer at the Adrian Flux Arena.
“But the boys took it in their stride, knuckled down and put in a very good shift. The Stars pushed us hard early on but we pushed harder and got dialled in towards the end of the meeting.
“Jaimon [Lidsey] and Norick [Blodorn] were very, very impressive tonight and even Jake Mulford is showing more and more potential with every meeting he races for us.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been in such strong, consistent form away from home and that is a brilliant achievement for us, but we can’t rest on our laurels. There is still a lot of work to do.”
The ATPI Aces are back in action at the National Speedway Stadium on Monday, June 12 for the return fixture against King’s Lynn in Manchester, tapes up at 7:30pm.
