Max Fricke was a maximum man once again as Belle Vue romped to a 49-41 victory over Ipswich on Monday, returning to winning ways and collecting three vital Premiership points in Manchester.

Despite the damp conditions, both teams got stuck into their racing with the National Speedway Stadium’s superb circuit repelling the unexpected weather to produce an excellent night of action.

The Tru Plant Witches didn’t go down without a fight however, and they certainly gave the Rentruck Aces a few early meeting scares to keep them honest as they worked to build an advantage.

It was all square after five races as the visitors’ initial successes evaporated into nothing, with Belle Vue taking control of proceedings quite emphatically and leaving Ipswich with work to do.

But there was no breaking the stride of their hosts as they extended their lead beyond the point of recovery, ensuring the win went the way of Belle Vue along with a full Premiership points haul.

Fricke said: “It’s a real confidence booster to get a win against a strong team like Ipswich. They’ve got plenty of great riders who like our track, especially the conditions we had on Monday.

“It was a bonus for me to get the maximum, but it was fair play to all the boys. Everyone chipped in and did what they needed to do, and we got the result we set out to achieve.

“We just need to carry this form to our remaining away meetings. We’ve got a few coming up but we’ve got gas in the tank and everyone is pumped to make the play offs, so don’t write us off yet!”
