Police are searching for abseiling jewellery thieves who broke into H. Samuel and stole over £40,000 worth of jewels in the early hours of Tuesday morning

Thieves had entered the store at the Fort by breaking through the ceiling and abseiling 40ft into the store before smashing glass display cabinets and stealing jewellery.

Early estimates suggest between £40,000 and £80,000 worth of jewellery has been stolen.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or for anyone with any information to come forward.

DC Atkinson from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This was a well-planned burglary, the offenders knew exactly what they were doing.

“We have launched an investigation and we encourage anyone with information to come forward, these offenders were highly skilled, someone must know something about their plans.

“A large quantity of jewellery has been stolen and we would like any information that would assist with the investigation.”
