Podcasts have successfully cemented themselves as more than a passing trend. Just last month, Spotify, the popular music streaming platform, bought two podcasts startup companies for an eye-watering £300 million.

With over half a million podcasts in existence and more people and businesses launching their own, a new event starts in Media City later this month, to bring together the region’s growing podcasting community.

Supported by Barclays Eagle Labs, MIC’s Edit Club is the latest initiative from MIC, a community for podcasters founded by audio producer Vic Elizabeth Turnbull. Recognising that podcast production can often be a solitary process and are often put together in home environments or bedroom studios; MIC’s Edit Club provides a space for podcast producers to edit their latest episode, record interviews, plan their podcast or simply meet other local, podcasters.

The first event, to be held at The Landing in the heart of Media City, will also have professional audio producers on hand to offer real, first-class advice and answer podcast related questions. The first guest announced for MIC’s Edit Club is Kate Cocker, a renowned audio industry insider and Presenter Coach, who’s worked extensively across BBC and commercial radio.

Kate, who also produces her own podcast and Amazon Alexa Skills Briefing called ‘Everyday Positivity’ thinks that events like MIC’s Edit Club are vital for the health of the local podcast community,

“A big chunk of podcasting is all about doing it on your own, but without fail something amazing happens when like-minded creatives get in a room and collaborate. That’s why I’m really excited to be involved in MIC’s Edit Club.”

Vic, the founder of MIC goes on to explain why she started the Edit Club,

“The podcast industry is booming and it shows no signs of slowing. MIC’s Edit Club is a unique, supportive environment for pro audio producers and DIY podcasters to connect, troubleshoot tech problems together, get a fresh pair of ears on their latest edits or kick-start new connections and collaborations. The idea is help everyone, whether pro or bedroom podcaster make awesome audio”

Darren O Brien, EcoSystems Manager at Barclays Eagle Labs, based at The Landing, jumped at the chance to support MIC’s Edit Club,

“Innovative initiatives such a MIC’s edit club is a great way of supporting the creative community in such an energised space like The Landing, and where better than the media epicentre of the UK, MediaCity.”

James Summerton – Business Development Manager at The Landing, the venue for Edit Club adds,

“As the centre for innovation in the heart of MediaCity, we want to become the home of knowledge for all things Tech. We see podcasting as a key part of the future of audio consumption, so it’s great to be involved with an organisation like MIC and host MIC’s Edit Club in our Social7 event space.”
