Shop offers on unhealthy foods will face restrictions from April 2022 under government proposals set for consultation.

The plans include a ban on confectionary at supermarket tills and on free refills of sugared drinks in restaurants.

The government says obesity is one of Britain’s biggest long-term public health problems with almost two-thirds of adults in England overweight and one in three children leaving primary school overweight or obese.

Public Health Minister Jo Churchill said the government wanted to “make sure the healthy choice is the easy choice” by banning the bad stuff that tastes good.
