The Great Northern Contemporary Craft (GNCCF) returns to Upper Campfield Market, from 10-13 October 2019 for its 12th edition. This once a year, award-winning show brings together over 160 specially selected designer-makers to sell their work and has become a must-attend event for exhibitors and buyers alike.

Expect a diverse range of talents and stories from professional makers including jewellers, ceramicists, furniture-makers, textile and glass artists, metalsmiths and printmakers. This is a rare chance to buy some genuinely individual pieces direct from the artists and talk to them about their work and the inspirations that guide them. Curator talks and maker demonstrations also provide visitors the opportunity to learn about the materials and the making process.

In addition, there’s ‘Great Northern Graduates’ – a curated showcase featuring 15 exceptional new makers chosen from the 3000 students who have graduated from this year’s creative courses. In another dedicated area are makers specially selected for the Craft Council’s Hothouse Award, a 6-month development programme. Hothouse alumni have gone on to create installations for Selfridges and Burberry and exhibited internationally at prestigious design events such as Milan Design Week. The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair provides a springboard for emerging talent and gives the audience an introduction to the ‘ones to watch’.

Event Organiser Ann-Marie Franey stated, “Park your preconceptions of craft at the door; this is a very different kind of shopping experience. The range and quality of work on sale will impress and inspire, and you’ll love what you find.”

Co-Organiser, Angela Mann added, “It’s time to think beyond the monolithic temples of mass consumerism. Contemporary craft isn’t just a match for anything from a top-end retailer. It’s more individual, more vibrant and has provenance; made for keeps, not just a season.”

The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair will commence with a special preview evening on Thursday 10 October from 6pm-9.00pm. Following the preview, the GNCCF will then be open to the public from 10am on Friday 11 October to 4pm on Sunday 13 October.
