Football will return to Bury’s Gigg Lane next season after the vote to amalgamate The Shakers Community and Bury FC Supporters Society passed by an overwhelmingly margin

The motion to adopt Bury Football Club as the playing name was approved by 92% of the vote. 1046 were in favour, 95 against and 24 abstentions.

“I hope it puts to bed the idea that the town’s divided or doesn’t really know what it wants” said AFC Chairman Phil Young after the vote

Members of both clubs failed to reach a two-thirds majority in the first merger vote in October last year

What we are building today, is for those who will look back, to be proud of the work we as volunteers have put into establishing this club as a shining example of a sustainable fan-owned football club,” said Bury Football Club Supporters’ Society on twitter

The vote will now open up funding  of £1.3m, £450,000 from Bury Council and the rest coming from the government’s levelling up fund.
