An 80 year old man has died after being struck by a HGV in Standish yesterday

The incident happened on Preston Road

Police were called to reports that an 80-year-old man had been struck by a HGV.

Emergency services attended, and despite the best efforts of the North West Ambulance Service, who carried out CPR at the scene, the man sadly died.

The driver of the HGV remained at the scene and has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He remains in custody for questioning.

Officers are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone with CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
