A 56-year-old cyclist has died in hospital after he was hit by a car in Gorton in the early hours of this morning.
The driver of the car, a black Saab, a 66-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.
The accident happened around 1.45am on Hyde Road near the junction of the M60
Police Sergeant Matt Waggett, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has very sadly lost his life and our thoughts are with his family during this extremely difficult time.
“We are working hard to piece together how the collision happened and we would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage to get in touch as soon as possible.”
