A fifty three year old women remains in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car while crossing the road in Oldham yesterday.

The accident happened around 11.00pm when she got out of a stationary taxi and walked south along the A627 Ashton Road.

After crossing the road and reaching the opposite pavement close to junction with Hathershaw Lane, she strayed backwards into the northbound carriageway and was struck by a black Ford C-Max.

The driver of the car, a man aged 45 was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Police are appealing for information on the incident.

Constable Philip Shaw of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “specialist officers are doing all they can support the woman’s family at this difficult time.

“We have launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances that led to this collision.

“That work is ongoing and I would ask anyone that may have seen the car in the area prior to the collision to get in touch.

“We are also appealing for anyone may have dash-cam footage or any information about the incident to contact police.”
