A fifty two year old man was arrested in Longsight this morning on on suspicion of rape and arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, in connection with an offence dating back to 2007.

He remains in police custody for questioning

The arrest was part of Operation Green Jacket launched following disclosures from survivors about multi-offender, multi-victim abuse occurring in the early 2000s. Our investigations are focused on identifying offenders who targeted vulnerable young people across South Manchester and working with survivors to build strong evidence packages to support prosecutions.

It is led by the force’s Child Sexual Exploitation Major Investigation Team, which was established in 2021 to investigate the most serious and complex cases. CSE MIT is made up of police officers and staff who are specially trained to work with partner agencies to conduct victim-centred investigations into non-recent CSE.

Detective Superintendent Alan Clitherow, head of GMP’s Child Sexual Exploitation Major Investigation Team (CSE MIT), said: “Today’s arrest marks another important step in our commitment to securing justice for survivors of these horrific crimes.

“We are determined to pursue every line of enquiry, no matter how much time has passed. We are here to listen, to support, and to act – whenever survivors are ready.”

“These investigations are being conducted with a victim-centred approach at its core. Officers are working at a pace that survivors are comfortable with, ensuring their wellbeing and safety remain paramount throughout.
