Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in Salford on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear.

The arrest followed gun shots being fired yesterday evening on St Joseph’s Drive, Salford.

Armed officers were deployed, and following a prolonged stand-off at a property on St Joseph’s Drive, a man was safely detained.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles said: “We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness.

“The use of firearms and acts of intimidation have absolutely no place in Greater Manchester, and we will not tolerate them.

“Our officers responded swiftly to protect the public, and our investigation will continue to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

“My appeal to the public is this: if you witnessed anything, or if you have any information that could assist our enquiries, please come forward.

“This includes anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time.”
