A 30 year old man has been killed after the car he was a passenger in drove across a roundabout and hit a tree in Leigh last night

The 29 year old driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The accident happened around 11.00pm The car, a Mercedes A200 was travelling east along the East Lancs Road when it approached a roundabout at the junction of Warrington Road – commonly known as the Greyhound Roundabout.

Constable Karl Horner of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this dreadful time.

“They are being supported by specialist officers while our investigations continue.

“It’s vital that anyone with information, who witnessed the crash or saw the car prior to the collision gets in touch.

“We would also ask that anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that can assist us contact police.”
