A twenty seven year old man has been arrested following a pre-planned operation targeting organised crime in Blackley this morning

Officers working as part of Operation Challenger intercepted a Vauxhall Astra on Osterley Road.

The driver of the car attempted to escape by ramming into a police vehicle causing damage and then collided with a parked car before being apprehended by officers following a violent struggle.

The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, money laundering and dangerous driving. He is now in police custody for questioning.

Police also recovered drugs including crack cocaine with a street value of £1,000 and cocaine with a street value of £100 and approximately £2,000 in cash.

Detective Inspector Paul Walker from GMP’s Challenger Manchester Unit said: “This is an excellent result, we have removed over £1,000 worth of class A drugs from our streets and have arrested a 27-year old man.

“The fight against serious organised crime in Greater Manchester is stronger than ever, thanks to round-the-clock disruption under operation Challenger and our specialist teams, who work on the ground to detect and destroy this criminality.

“We will continue to use all of the powers and information available to us and our partners to locate those involved in serious and organised crime and put a stop to it for good.”
