A 26-year-old man has been arrested following the death of a woman in Denton in the early hours of Monday morning in a suspected hit and run.
Police say he is being held on suspicion of a range of driving offences including causing death by dangerous driving, causing death whilst disqualified, and failing to stop following a collision.
The 49 year old victim since named as Joanne Whyte was hit by a white BMW 220D on Ashton Road, Denton.
The BMW failed to stop following this collision and continued down Ashton Road, where a short while later, the car collided with an unoccupied Ford Transit which was parked at the junction where Denton Road turns onto Mayfield Street.
The driver fled the scene on foot.
Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with information, or those who have dash-cam footage, to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.
