A 19 year old man has been arrested after a car chase in Oldham last night which ended when the fleeing car crashed into the railings on the side of the road
The car had been stolen from Delph in Saddleworth
As the car approached the A627 (M), it entered a no entry lane and began to drive the wrong way into oncoming traffic, placing members of public in danger.
The fleeing car crashed into the railings on the side of the road, and a man got out of the car and attempted to run off. Officers located and seized a machete which the suspect is believed to have discarded during the foot chase and recovered drugs after a search of the vehicle.
A 19 year old man was swiftly arrested, following a short foot chase, on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, possession of a bladed article, and possession of drugs. He remains in police custody for questioning.
Inspector Jamie Buchanan, from our Roads Policing Unit, said: “This latest arrest is a prime example of the work we are doing on a daily basis to trace stolen cars and remove drugs and weapons from our streets.
“The driver showed a blatant disregard for members of the public, reaching speeds of over 100mph, and even driving the wrong way on a busy roundabout.
“Thankfully, no members of the public were injured, but without the quick-thinking actions of the officers involved, this could’ve ended very differently.”
