One of the proposals for air travel as the UK comes out of lockdown has been condemned as effectively killing international travel.

Reports on Sunday in a number of papers suggested that The United Kingdom, more than four weeks into home lockdowns across the country plans to enforce a 14 day mandatory quarantine for all returning travellers.

Since the global pandemic began, the UK never altered border procedures. In fact, all returning passengers were stunned to see that there was absolutely no heat or health screenings in airports or immigration desks at all. For any returning traveler, it was immigration as usual.

Airlines UK, the industry association representing UK-registered carriers, said:

“This proposal would effectively kill international travel to and from the UK and cause immeasurable damage to the aviation industry and wider UK economy. Nobody is going to go on holiday if they’re not able to resume normal life for 14 days, and business travel would be severely restricted. It will also make it all but impossible for aviation to resume any time soon, thereby setting back the UK’s economic recovery still further.”
