The fresh inquest into the death of the Manchester Grammar School boy who died after being stabbed by friend Joshua Molnar in Hale Barns in March 2019 who claimed self defence has ruled that he was unlawfully killed

Molnar was cleared of his murder and manslaughter at trial in 2019

Former Senior Coroner Mr Geraint Williams, who sits as the Coroner in the fresh inquest, made it clear that the single root issue to be determined is that of whether Joshua Molnar acted in self-defence as he claimed

The pair had spent the day with another friend, Adam Chowdhary who had organised a drug deal which had gone wrong.

Yousef was stabbed around 90 minutes later in an argument and died in hospital shortly after

The fresh inquest comes after success in the High Court where Lady Justice Macur and Mr Justice Fordham found that the Senior Coroner’s conclusion in the first inquest was ‘Wednesbury’ unreasonable.

In doing so, the High Court agreed with the family’s submissions that the Senior Coroner had failed to properly consider all the evidence available before she returned a narrative conclusion stating that the ‘precise circumstances could not be ascertained’.
